Sir John relocated to New York City more than a decade ago at age 20. He took a job dressing windows at Henri Bendel, which led to a career window doing visual merchandising at Gucci. The young makeup artist then met with British makeup artist Pat McGrath – and the rest was history. From there, Sir John landed a string of enviable gigs – jobs with designers like Tom Ford (where he met the iconic Beyonce) were carried out with McGrath and makeup artist and YouTube guru Charlotte Tilbury.

“We shot videos all over the world. It was such a great experience,” Sir John said of becoming an ambassador for L’Oreal. “I’ve come to love the brand through her eyes,” he added, referring to Beyonce’s favorite products, which include the Infallible lip color line, a long-lasting lip product that’s smudge-proof and lasts for hours.

Some of Sir John’s favorites also include the company’s popular Voluminous original mascara and its new La Palette Nude eye shadows.

Donning a scintillating see-through gown, R&B superstar Rihanna has been honored as fashion icon of the year for her sense of style and spunk.

The singer received the award late Monday from the Council of Fashion Designers of America at a soiree in New York’s Lincoln Center featuring the industry’s elite.

It was here that Rihanna, her revealing sheer Swarovski crystal-encrusted dress leaving little to the imagination, stole the show as she strutted down the red carpet in the provocative Adam Selman creation.

Powerful Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour presented the prize to the 26-year-old recording artist, who has flanked the cover of the prestigious magazine that recently deemed her “fashion’s most exciting new muse.”

Diane von Furstenberg, the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America famed for her wrap dresses, admitted as much, telling AFP: “I think she’s hot!”

Previous winners include Lady Gaga, Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman.

Another of the night’s laureates was Joseph Altuzarra, born in Paris to a French father and Chinese-American mother, who took the womenswear designer of the year award.

Maleficent’ casts spell on North American box office

Angelina Jolie’s “Maleficent,” the modern retelling of the life of Sleeping Beauty’s arch-nemesis, worked its magic on audiences over the weekend, debuting at the top of the North American box office, industry estimates showed Sunday.

The wicked witch who has haunted generations of children raked in $70 million, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations, in a flick that not only casts Jolie in the title role, but was also produced by the megastar.

Meanwhile, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” a time-bending movie that brought in $110.6 million over Memorial Day weekend, sank to second place with only $32.6 million in its second weekend out.

And cowboy comedy “A Million Ways to Die in the West,” which stars comedian Seth MacFarlane as a sheep farmer in 1880s Arizona, debuted in third place with $17.1 million.

The weekend was big for classic villains and monsters, with “Godzilla” landing in fourth place with $12.2 million.

The movie features “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston as a tortured Japanese-speaking scientist battling to save humanity from the looming creature.

In fifth was romantic comedy “Blended,” featuring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, which scored $8.4 million in ticket sales.

“Neighbors” starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a couple living next door to a raucous fraternity house, earned $7.7 million and landed in sixth.

Comic-book favorite “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” meanwhile fell two places to seventh, earning $3.8 million.

Trailing just behind in eighth place with $3.7 million was “Million Dollar Arm,” starring Jon Hamm.

The movie tells the true story of a Major League Baseball agent who goes to India to find the next big thing among cricket players.

Foodie flick “Chef,” the story of a fictitious, restless chef who decides to embark on a food-truck adventure remained in ninth place with $2.0 million.

And rounding out the top ten with $1.4 million was “The Other Woman,” a romantic comedy starring Cameron Diaz.
